Where does a thought begin? In a world dominated by communication, where thought processes are obliged to be efficient and there’s no time for idle contemplation, can art create situations, time slots, temporary and volatile spaces that care for different rhythms, other modes of sharing, altered forms of becoming available for impressions, sensations and affects, more intimate to life’s being with the world?
Kim Boyong’s artistic practice exists in the gently vibrant spaces between image-making and meditation, story-telling and spirituality, theatre and voice-based sharing, not fully representation but not neither just a social moment. Kim Boyong masterly composes with the smallest gestures landscapes that make stories come to life; forgotten, to insignificant or of utmost importance.
In this workshop, the focus is on breathing, the voice, and singing together. Kim Boyong will guide the group through experiences simultaneously healing and challenging, present and ancient, personal and collective, through which the voice becomes landscape, bodies mountains to ascend and being together a timeless intimacy.

This program is presented with the support of 2024 ARKO International Arts Network.
Kim Boyong is an artist based in Seoul. Through his practice he takes an interest in presence, the hidden, the unspeakable, the inner stage and the possibility of sharing the ineffable. Art’s often linear relation to value and capitalism is in Kim Boyong’s work complexified through the engagement with spirituality and nothingness, exploring alternative ecologies of mental, social and environmental relations. Seeing without seeing, experiencing without images, being without representation is in Kim Boyong’s work opening up for questions around transindividual life, simultaneously a dark body and a porous being connected and together.
